I assume it's the 4.3 in your signature? If so, there shouldn't be any hoses going to the elbows (unless it's closed cooling and then you'll be stopping the water flow completely).

Next question... what problem are you trying to solve?

Re: removing the hose that goes to the risers

Ok, I've just seen your thread on the new paint job, and seen the thermostat housing. That is not a 1994 engine, it's earlier.

I'm guessing you want to reduce the hose count so the paint job won't be hidden before you close the engine cover. :D

If you remove/plug those hoses you'll not have any water running though the elbows until the thermostat opens... and that is not good news. If you replace the current thermostat housing (old style) with the new style, then you can remove the hoses to the elbows, just put a pipe plug in the hole....

If that's the way you want to go, let us know and we can give you part numbers.

ok chris you lost me for a sec......1 it's not a 94 ? so that would explain alot ( in the wiring ). i was told that the ports on the back of the thermostat housing that go to the risers are called the bypass? and it would not hurt to block them off.

Pet Peeve time here..... Who "Told" or did you "Hear" all this stuff from?

Some guy on the dock with dirty knuckles and a boat that doesn't run?

Have you looked up in the Adults Only or the DIY sticky and download a service manual? There are all kinds off cooling system diagrams in those manuals.

There are 4 'exit' ports on the thermostat housing. One pair allows water to run to the elbows while the thermostat is closed, and the other pair are the exit ports for the water from the block once it has reached thermostat opening temperature. Blocking either pair will cause major problems.

Post up the engine serial number and we can get a year for you....

This is directly from the Merc service manual... You should try reading it....

That assumes he can read and understand a water flow diagram..... Not everybody has the genius IQ of you and me.... :D:D

If you are asking about removing some of those hoses... Then not a lot.... (and you did ask).

We need to stop this or Don will come along and ban both of us.... :D
