Hello all. . sorry if that is not the right term for the wheel assembly. . But i need to take this off to swap it to my new engine and this is holding me up. I can get the 3 bolts out of the pulley wheel but i cant get the "drum" or "disk" to break free from the cam? Is there some bolts i am missing or does this just have to be hammered off? Any help would be greatly appreciated?????

Re: Removing the pulley wheel?

Other than a waterpump pulley, there is a puller that must be used if removing the pulley from a power steering pump or a harmonic balancer from the crank. Beating on it with a hammer will only do damage. You can either buy or rent the puller from most auto parts stores.

Re: Removing the pulley wheel?

You are probably talking about the harmonic dampener which mounts on the nose of the crankshaft. Yes, a puller is required to remove it. Don't use a jaw type puller (commonly called a gear puller). Use the type that consists of a flat plate with three bolts that thread into the dampener. A large center bolt butts up against the nose of the crankshaft. You turn that bolt to pull the dampener. When you install it on the new engine, don't hammer it on or you run the risk of breaking the crank or doing other damage. Draw the dampener on using the center bolt you removed along with the other three.
