I have been rebuilding a 1984 Evinrude 115hp V4. Model E115TLCRD

it seems one problem leads to another and now the tilt trim doesn't work.

It just stopped mid tilt when we finished putting the lower unit back on. Worked fine up till then.

I can hear clicking at the tilt motor but no movement.

I was trying to remove the tilt/trim to take the motor off for testing but I seem to have a problem.

Removed the six bolts, released the hydraulic pressure, unhooked and retracted the tilt ram. I have enough slack in the trim wires.

Got the motor up on the trailer lock.

The shop manual seems to show you just pull the unit out. My unit is loose but seems to be hung up somehow and doesn't just tilt forward and slide out like the shop manual says.

Any ideas? what am I missing?

is the tilt ram extended? you may have to use the pressure release valve to lower it for clearance.

Yes, I got that.

Stared at it for 30 minutes. drank 1 beer then figured out the pressure relief screw was catching on the side mount. I screwed it all the way back down then used a heavy bladed screwdriver to slightly pry the port mounting bracket out enough for the screw to clear.

It is this darn little things that add hours to a repair.

The motor wouldn't turn and was all rusted up inside. I can't believe it worked up till a couple days ago!

Ordered new one and relays just to be safe.

Thanks

nice, sometimes all you need is a bit of time and 12 ounces of goodness.

i was lucky, mine was working intermittently so i was able to retract everything using the partially working motor before removal.
