Gerry is correct. That gearcase is from a newer motor, likely mid 80s or so. It is probably completely compatable with your motor, but has the speedo pitot built into it. That black hose should go to a speedometer gauge on the dashboard. Picture 2 appears to show a splice, where you can disconnect it. The two other cables should be for throttle and shift functions.

I got my new manual and I did finally realize that the small line that I thought was a cable was actually a small hollow tube with a splice in it. Thanks for all your guidance for this newbee. I am now ready to lift off the motor. I do not have a lift key, but I have ropes on the cowl handles and a braced up rafter in my garage. I am sure I will have more questions. I really do appreciate the help!

050.jpg050.jpgI now have a question on where to start on the repair of the transom. I am including pictures of the condition of the transom. I have seen u tube videos talking about grinding off the outer transom and finding the rotten wood thru the backside and I had a person suggest that I cut the cap just above the rear wheel step to remove the cap to get to the rotten wood. Not sure where to begin. Very open to suggestions!
