Removing trim/transom assembly?? 89 Force 125

I am going to remove my old trim assembly for a different whole trim/tramsom assembly. I know I need a engine hoist and all that, But what else do I need for the job? And any tips?

you do not need to remove engine.

raise and securely block engine
remove three pump mounting bolts
remove upper mounting shaft
remove lower mounting shaft
flex oil tubes slightly and pull pump assy clear of stud
old unit will drop out bottom of engine.
installation is reverse of above.

I am not just replacing the pump, but the whole assembly that mounts to the transom.

are you taking off the swivel bracket? if not its a pretty easy job

I don't think so, Just replacing the whole unit that you see in the pics. I would be removing the transom bracket and bolts, and basically removing the complete outboard from the boat.

you don't need to replace your transom or swivel brackets unless there is some other reason.

The oildyne system pictured is a drop-in exchange. take off the three pump bolts and remove the lower shaft. Oildyne unti will fall off transom brackets. take out same three bolts, lower shaft, upper shaft and your prestolite system will similarly fall off existing engine.

By the way- hang onto your old prestolite pump and oil tubes. when that oildyne goes out it will cost you more to repair it than throw away. the prestolite pump can be made like new for under $200.

Thanks, sounds eaiser then I thought. How about bleeding the trim system when I get it all back together?

That system is so JB-welded up its funny. Previous owner move. I don't think its worth keeping, Ebay it.

That system is so JB-welded up its funny. Previous owner move. I don't think its worth keeping, Ebay it.

if your oildyne goes out it's going to cost you at least $300 to fix it. More likely $450-$550 since motor will probably give out around same time. On the other hand your prestolite can be made new for under $200. Unless that oildyne is pristine perfect with factory fresh seals then you should hang onto prestolite. Otherwise you'll have to go to ebay and buy a used one for $150ish ... which may have prettier paint but won't really be in any better internal shape .... it will probably either already bleed down or be on it's last legs ... and you'll still have to pay the $200 to have it rebuilt. Since yours looks bad you won't get as much for it. Selling trim parts on ebay is a funny thing. People don't seem to realize that it is age not looks or hours that usually makes them break. So the ugly ones go cheap and the shiny one expensive. In reality, as long as the magnet isn't broken or the armture heavily rusted then it is just as rebuildable as any other.

So the prestolite motor will fit onto the oildyne system? Looks like it, So I may keep the motor and sell off the other parts. Thanks for the heads up!
