Removing water from impeller now and restarting in spring

If you're not suppose to run the impeller with no water around it or it will shred, I have a question. In order to winterize properly, all water needs to be removed from all the parts of the engine. So what happens the next time you start the engine up until water gets back up to the impeller? Inquiring minds want to know.

Next time you start the engine either with the muffs installed or in the water, the impeller will be immersed in water at start up.

Oh right...but the engine mounted seawater pump is usually mounted below the waterline. Either way, the MFG has tought of that is the design...

Thats why a Volvo impeller should be replaced every year. The impellers that are in the lower unit can last several years.
