Re: Renaming a boat!!!!

Hey Wavenbye2.....we have the exact same boat! Same year and motor. Since mine had been sitting for 5 years before I bought here I was wondering what to expect when I get her running.

Fully planned out on smooth waters what am I looking at for speed?
Any things I should be warned of on this boat?

sorry to change the topic slightly!!!! :)

And the nam eon the boat right now is "Lady Elsie" and I just cannot live with that.

Re: Renaming a boat!!!!

Do people seriously believe this stuff, or is it just an excuse to party and act silly on a boat? I'm not a Christian, but is it safe to assume that none of the people who participate in the boat naming ceremony are either? Doesn't it violate the first commandment? Not trying to start a religious discussion, just an observation. I can't believe how widely held this superstition is! More power to you though.

Personally, I don't buy in to superstitions. So I just took off the old name, and when I pick a new one, I'll just stick it on there. For the record, I also don't believe that I will break my mothers back if I step on a crack.

Here's what I wonder... If you rename a boat, is it an official thing? Other than pouring alcohol in the water, do you also have to notify anyone? I've seen boats with no registration numbers, only names. Does that mean they registered the name somehow? Can you just name a boat by slapping some stickers on it?

One more, in certain situations, like calling the lock on the radio, or calling for distress, what do you say if your boat doesn't have a name? I've never radioed for anything, so I don't know the etiquette.

Heathen Non-Beliver...The Boat Gods will strike you down.....and impose foul odors into your bilge....

5yrs since she has been run?? Well the very fist thing I would do is down load the mercruiser manual, You can go to the Iboats forum right here
"Mercruiser, Omc, Volvo, & Other I/O
& Inboard Engine & Outdrives"
Up at the top there is the "Adults Only" click on that and the manual for our boat is there, Manual #18 for the engine and Manual #6 for the Alpha One sterndrive. It will give you all the information you will need, Tune-ups, mainenance, Troubleshooting Ect.. everything you need to know. Even if you are going to have a professional machanic look at it, down load the manual anyway just for your own info. I would check everything, oil (what color), Change oil & filter, tune her up, check sterndrive oil, grease everything (grease fittings,Marine grease), run her on muffs(NEVER run w/out) and keep an eye on all your gauges, oil, temp, voltage etc..You manual will tell you and show you where everything is. I would have fully looked over, You could have alot of dryrotted, Hoses, belts and bellows. Down load the manual:)(it's FREE)

Re: Renaming a boat!!!!

The manual download was the first thing I did! All 439 pages of it. Printed it out and have it by my side any time I touch the boat.

The hoses are good, no belt or drive pulley, previous owner took them off never to be seen again. Took off the intake cleaned her out good and painted her (couldn't resist).

Got a new/used water pump and thermostat housing in relatively good shape for $60.00. When it stops raining I will pop those in.

In the process off rebuilding and testing the alternator. I have one for parts and the one that came off the boat. It's a Mando...and I've switched everything out and brought it to Advanced Autoparts for testing. Still only gets up to 11V, and I'm wondering if they are testing it wrong. I will read in the archives to see if I am missing something here.

Any insight? I should actually post this elsewhere.

You ever done this?

Ya go ahead and start a new thread on this, That way you can also get more input, Wouldn't hurt, Why not!!:)
The mando should at least be pushing 12V and as far as auto zone, Well sometimes they are good at testing and sometimes not. I had a starter rebuilt by a Alt/starter local rebuilder and he did a great job (so far) auto zone didn't know what they were doing(depends on whose working). I would like to see some pics, Have you ran her at all yet W/muffs?? Mercruiser manual is awsome, I read and study it just incase I learn something new or helpful later. But ya start a new thread:)
