Re: Renaming Dockside Chat

Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to saunter over to the I/O forum where strong opinions are still acceptable.

Nothing on the www is soothing to thin skin.
May I suggest we leave it the way it is.
When the Mods act, suck it up and move on.

Maybe a disclaimer is in order ;) ...

Social views expressed by members in Dockside Chat are not necessarily those of the management. Any resemblance to sociable conversation is purely coincidental. Swim At Your Own Risk!

Willy almost got it right...

I agree LF

I have changed my mind from a couple years ago.

Iboats should have a separate forum called
What kind of Cool aide do you drink?
And keep all politics there.

It doesn’t mean I wouldn’t jump in there with my thoughts. Right or Left (wrong) :)
But it would turn DC back to what it was.
IE: I could care less what Haut thinks about President Bush. Just tell me where the RED Door restaurant is in Seattle.

IE: I could care less what Boomyal thinks of nasty poleski.
Just say hey the next time your down visiting your kids in
Portland, give a call and we can grab a brew or coffee.

Nothing wrong with having strong views and I have mine.
But DC isn't the place.

Just my .02

Then what is "the place?"

DC is the only place on Iboats where it is and should be permitted.

Link, if you don't like reading politics, then don't, but don't try to tell others what they should (or shouldn't) talk about in an open forum.

WITF, I think what Link and I mean is that for us who don't wish to get all riled up in the political discussions there are very few threads to interact with.

When you come to a boating BB to chat, you like to find a variety of things to discuss. As of the past couple of years the majority of topics are either political or become that way eventually.

I belong to a political board and thats where I discuss politics if and when I feel like it. I just choose not to do it here. I used to post my political opinions here but decided no matter what I said there was always someone around to dispute it. I felt I was making enemies here on the dock where I had friends. This was not what I wanted to do.

Well said LF.

This exact aargument has been brought up more times than I care to count. The typical response used to be that "its just a phase" and "eventually it will go back to normal". It is true that everyone of us can choose to not read a political post based on the title......but is that really the issue here? Seriously do you think someone who is browsing the fora and is looking for help with his boat and accidentaly stumbles on to DC isnt going to change his views about the forum as a whole. Wether we like it or not, the DC reflects this entire forum. Those who frequent the repair fora can tell you that even those are not what they used to be. Maybe its just growing pains, and maybe we all need to get used to it.......

Re: Renaming Dockside Chat

This forum is only getting a slice of the general population that has become more polarized as a whole in the last ten years to twelve years. People come to the help forums and stumble onto dockside while here and viola, what have we here, a new "wingnut/screaminn liberal", is born right before our eyes. 8)

sorry I got off topic,

we could have a section called DOCKSIDE SPAT
it could have sub-sections called Temper-Temper, a Pouting section, even a quiet corner, where the Mod's could put us with our handle displayed for an hour or so..

8)8)8) Who said nothing but mean politics goes on in DC. Here is a good example of unmitigated humor.

Personally, I think this excuse of stumbling on mean and nasty posts because they were labled poorly, is a bunch of hogwash. (a purposefully choosen inciteful word) It's as if once you open the post, the door locks behind you and you can't get out. You are forced to stick it out and endure the pain.

It reminds me of the battered wife syndrome, where she just doesn't have the wherewithal to break free.

Of course that is all in keeping with today's penchant for blaming everyone else for your woes. Maybe the great Uncle iboats will come to your rescue?

Oh heck Mods, why don't you give em all a non-political forum. I guarantee you it would be one of the deadest forums.

It would be kinda like going on a tour with several busses. On the trip out, everyone avoids the smoking bus like the plague. The bus is so quiet and dull that on the return trip they have to bar the door to the smoking bus 'cause every one wants to get on it. That's where all the fun and excitement took place.
