Repainting

I would like to repaint my o/b engine housing. I have a fiberglass cover. It is a 1989 Johnson 150. I have read many posts but all seem to refer to primering aluminum.
Any special prep for fiberglass? i.e. what type of primer and what type of paint?

sand it down well, clean it with acetone. Primer it with a standard automotive primer, and paint it with automotive paint.
