I bought a 1996 cajun bay boat about a year ago , Shortly after I noticed a soft on deck . It seems with each use it is getting bigger. I clearly have a big problem. I realize that the boat rots from within , so If i want to have the floor , stringers and transome replaced by a professional. What would be a rough cost i could expect ? the boat is 21 foot. If anybody has done this please tell me what u had to pay. thanks

Prices depend a lot on your location, and even if anybody in your area does this kind of work... where do you live?

Re: repair cost ??

Well, if it's pretty cold there and there isn't a lot of people going boating you should be able to get it done cheaper now than waiting closer to spring. Spring and summer is when the boat shops stay full and charge full price, right now they should be slow and looking for something to do.

... but it'll probably still cost you a pretty penny. It's a lot of labor and materials are expensive.

Professional rebuild you say? Transom, deck, stringers (foam too)?

I hate to say it but you could probably buy a "water ready" boat for what you'd cough up for a pro to complete that job. Big money (if done right).

Sorry for the bad news.

Have you considered doing the work yourself? The guys here on iboats are awesome and I'm sure they'd talk your through.

Yes I have thought about doing it my self. it seems a dounting task. Im not sure how i could even remove the upper shell of the boat to get to the transom to replace it.

Start reading through the fiberglass boat restorations, and read a lot of them.

There's a HUGE amount of info on this site for those willing to research.

Post pics of your boat so we can see exactly what you have to work with for the best help.

There's been complete novices that have done great restorations on their boats with the help of this site... and once you're finished you'll know your boat inside out.

A Rough Guess - ti - mate would be, and this is based on having to replace everything...Deck, Stingers, Transom and Foam, $4 to 5 K AND no guarantee it will be done right. Just because someone hangs a shingle and says they're a PRO, doesn't mean they ARE!!!! Lots of examples here on the forum of very SHODDY PRO Work. It depends on how Reputable they are. Only YOU would build it the 100% best way. If you're not gunna do the work then it's prolly NOT worth the Time or investment.
