Got a chip about the size of a quarter on the rear corner of my boat. My plan is to clean up the edges a little with a dremel, sand, clean w/ acetone, and use Marine-Tex to patch it up. Sound like a decent plan or is there a better method to fix something like this?

If she were mine I would random orbit sand and feather that back 3 to 5 inches and use several layers of fiberglass mat and poly resin to fill and build that back up. I would then either Use Gelcoat or paint to blend it back in to match as best I could.

I'm just sayin...:D

I was thinking about using mat but it's right on the corner So that would really test my non existent fiberglass skills.

From what I can see, in that triangular portion, the mat would lay right around and over that corner/edge with no problem. you could do it even being a novice. That is NOT a hard fix. Use 80 grit paper, feather it back to the edges of the corners till you get to bare glass then cut your patches coat the hull with resin and the patches and lay em in. In less than an hour you'll be ready to paint or apply gel coat.

I guess you can use marine tex.. ( I dont but I have a crapload of resin/glass/cabosil on hand ).

For that small of a repair I would do what you suggested and dremel/scuff fill with a dabber of putty sand then brush 2 coats of bottom paint on.

Mohair ( 3m glass filler or otherwise ) would be better then the Tex IMO..

Its a baby scratch :)

Flip 5 bucks on any marina yardhand and they will touch it up while doing another project :) .. Saves cost on trying to buy a qt of paint for 2 oz of product ..

YD.

I forgot about Mohair, its been so long since I have done any fiberglass work. Will Mohair work on small chips (>fingernail size) as well?
