I'm getting ready to buy a repair manual for my 84 rude 25hp. I understand that "you get what you pay for". In the iboats store the soltec repair manual is listed at $39.00. The ken cook repair manual lists for $120.00.

I don't have a large problem with the $120.00,although I would rather get by with the $39.00 book, but I do wonder why is there such a huge difference in pricing between the two publishers? Can there be an equal difference in the two repair manuals ?

You might want to try ebay. They have OEM manuals on disk sometimes

Never heard of soltec, but Seloc does make a decent manual...mostly covers maintenance and simple repairs. If you want something with fine details on the guts, go with the factory manual. I know you L-O-V-E Schmebay Murph (just kiddin'), but txwhater is right...its a good source for original printed factory manuals or those on CD/disc. The CD manuals are nice cause you can print however much of it you want/need and not have to worry about damaging your only copy...my shop and, er, accidents have ruined more than one paper manual...dog even ate one once. Replaced that one with a manual on disc...dog is long gone, but still have that disc.

I went and ordered a CD from E-Bay. Lets hope that is all I need to start learning how to tinker with these little things. :)

Hey Murph, I am pretty sure you will back on Ebay looking for an OMC( not Clymers or Seloc) manual, had the CD and they are horrible, at least the one I had.

The adds said OMC manual on CD except it wasn't, super hoaky and read like it was translated from chinease, nothing will beat an actual OEM manual, it covers your engine period, if it is in there it has to do with your motor, none of this "similar too" stuff.

I'm concerned about getting some knock off homemade CD, but $4.00 total is worth that gamble. Besides, I'm getting quite good at doing the paypal disputes and claims. We'll see what we get in the mail later this week. :)
