Re: repair manuals on cd any good???

I have a couple of manuals on CD. Don't like them. I also have a couple of aftermarket Manuals, Seloc and Clymer. Better, but too little info on too many engines.

I much prefer OEM manuals directed at a particular model. ebay has some, kencook.com has them all.

I purchased the "Vintage Johnson Manual" off of Ebay. This is a CD manual which covers a wide range of older Johnson 2 strokes.

It covers the basics pretty well. Ignition work, carb work, water pump impeller, etc........ You will have to wade thru a lot of information to get the information specific to your model. And I have made many printouts which I carry to the garage.

So what am I saying?????????? It's serviceable, but I would rather have a good OEM book.

Re: repair manuals on cd any good???

I once bought the well know shop repair manual book on cd from eBay.
Just as what i expected, it missed chapter 11 - VRO like the versions you can find on 'the internet'.
So: The seller was trying to make a quick buck with illegal downloaded content.
Later i got the whole document (PDF) but i recommand Seloc Online in combination with this forum.

You can't rebuild or repair an outboard from book or internet. It's is learning by doing and learning the hard way.

i perfer hard copies. you can sit in the chair and read. instead of hump over the puter. i also scan what i want to take to the motor, instead of dirtying the book.
