Re: Repair or Repower?

You can take both powerheads off and put the older one (Off the Glasstream) on the newer mid tower. You can also take the engine end of the wire harness and splice it into the Mariner harness. If the Merc you purchased is the same ignition that you have on the Mariner, then you can take the engines internal wire harness and put it on the older powerhead. If the older one has a distributer, then you would need to make an adapter on the boat end of the Mariner harness.

Hope this helps.

Re: Repair or Repower?

The engine side wiring harness is completely different, since I have the complete boat i am going to change the entire harness.

I think I have figured out how to get the tilt/trim to work. The front support brace on the cowling ( the one that supports the cover around the fly wheel) will be changed over. This is where the mariner has the T/T solenoid. From here It is a two wire hook up, for the most part. Green/White and Blue/White respectively.

Now that is sort of sorted out, I think that I can unbolt the mid section from the T/T bracket with four bolts. The only thing that I can see that will get in the way is the Shift rod (at least that is what I think it is). My question is, can the shift rod be pulled out if the lower unit is off? Or how can I get the linkage out so this will come apart.

On a Side not I can now see why Seloc is not recommended.

Re: Repair or Repower?

The motor on the Glasstream serial number 5327819- this comes up to a 1979.
did some more research on the wiring. It looks like I am going to have to use the control box that is already on the boat (Champion) Now i am trying to cross reference the wiring so that I can splice the two harness together. Here is what I have so far.
I hope someday this can help someone out

Merc goes to Mariner
Black - Starter Solenoid Black
Orange Upper Switch Box 1st from front Black/Yellow
Brown - Rectifier Grey
Red + Starter Solenoid Red
Yellow Starter Solenoid(trigger????) Yellow/Red
Grey Choke Solenoid Yellow Black

Now the diagrams for the trim switches on the different control boxes are giving me a hard time. If someone could help out here

The Glasstream has a Early remote control WITH power trim/tilt (that is how it is labeled in the Seloc book
The Champion has a Quicksilver control

I can take pictures of both if it would help, at this point any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys

Oh the reason for changing the control boxes is that the Merc one is too thick to let my seat flip up, where the QuickSilver one is allot slimmer.
