We just bought a 17' Duracraft aluminum johnboat. It has about 20 leaking rivets. After doing a lengthy search here, I have decided to use small bolts to replace these bad rivets. The stainless bolts I already have are 1/4"-20 X1/2".

The washers though, are the stainless washers with the rubber gasket made onto the washer. Is there a better gasket/grommet solution than rubber? Should I put a dollop of some kind of sealant prior to poking the bolt through he hole? Which sealant?

It is not expensive nor difficult to just replace your leaking rivets with closed-end rivets yourself. The rivet gun and rivets are not expensive. Good luck.

That's right!

Quick and easy too!:

... and closed end blind rivets are much cheaper than SS hardware, not to mention every aluminum boat owner should have a rivet setting tool and assortment of blind rivets... sure does make life a lot easier.
