I have a 16 ' fiberglass starcraft american. What is the best way to seal a fiberglass boat?? I have some small leaks and I am new to boating. I bought new outdoor carpet and new marine vinyl for the seats. Have any suggestions? Also behind my steering wheel there is a wood sticker that is in bad shape. Where would I get something like that at? Thanks again!!! I love this Forum.

Re: repairing leaks and putting new fabric on seats

Im filling the boat up right now with water to see what kinda leaks I got. I don't have a camera. It is a sticker that goes behind the steering wheel that is about 10 " X 18". Im confused on how to attach my newly repaired seats. The vinyl needs to be wraped around the wood before it is attached but the screw goes in from the same side as the vinyl is. Has anyone had this problem?

If you need to bolt a vinyl-covered item to the boat hull, there are only two ways I can think of. One way is to bolt or screw through the vinyl, and ise a stainless steer finishing washer to dress up the fastener. You can also buy snap on caps for bolt heads. These caps can match the color of the vinyl.

The other way to fasten a vinyl-covered piece to the hull is to install a stainless steel bolt to the piece with a Tee nut, prior to covering it with the vinyl. The tee nut holds the bolt in the object, but allows the bolt end to stick out. Now the piece is covered in the vinyl, which hides the bolt head. The bolt end is placed in a hole in the hull and a washer and nut is installed on the backside of the hull to hold the piece in place. This method only works with thru bolted items, where you can reach the back side of the mounting area.

alright I bought two new front seats and cut all the wood I need to redo the others. Im not sure how to sew to make those seems so I think I may just wrap it tight and try to avoid any creases. anyone no anything about that sticker behind the steering wheel?
