so i've never done any work as far as the hull on a boat, just up graded my boat to a much nicer one and of course the first time i pull it out of the water the front roller splits and i hit frame taking 2 small probaly 1/8' by 3/4 chips out of the gell coat and can see fiberglass, it doesnt have to be perfect but i would like it to be not too noticeable how hard will this be

thank you very much in advance

peice of cake......

i could not see from the pics if the glass was white on the big chip....i dont thing it is......(if it is...then youge got more grinding and glassing to do...

grind out the area around the chips clean with aceitone....and fill with marine tex or gellcoat.....then sand....

two hours max.....

you can use a grinder or dremmel

yep......just grind clean....."feather" out the edges of the gellcoat.....clean with aceitone....

then mask off the area with wax paper....use a drip section......fill with marine tex or gell coat...let cure....sand ....buff......pros do thoes repairs in 35 minits....

it will take you an hour or two......once you get the hang of it....no gellcoat repair will ever scare you again...

yea it has some minor ones but these two really bother me being right down to the fiberglass.

Re: Repairing small gouges in hull

tyhat one looks nasty......but no worries.....

see how the inside of the hole is smaller than the outside...(surface) ?....thats what i mean by feathering.....take your dermmel and make the surface area wider than it is...that wat the gellcoat will have lots of surface to bond with......

now ....see all the little "pitts" around the area?.....i think i may have a really fast way to fix them all at once.....but before i post it i gotta investigate it....

we might be able to get that boat looking like brand new in just minits !

cheers
