I just received this boat for the cost of putting it in my name. it is a 1961 elgin boat w/ elgin trailer and elgin motor. I am new to this site and boat repair so any help would be great.

I'm not really sure how to go about it or start. the motor says 40 on it so im assuming that it is a 40hp is that right. The following pics show areas of concern.

Any one with pics of what the seat should look like i would apriciate them please. also the seat and floor under it seams soft and gives about 3/8 inch when pressed on but is sturdy enough to stand on.
As for the back of the boat there is a surface crack across the back that just under the board that goes across. it looks to be a surface pealing of the fiber glass but seem to me strong and solid. Please i have no idea where to start but have looked at a few videos on gel coats and fiberglass. any comments would help.

Re: repairs? 61 elgin

Welcome to iBoats!
Beautiful old Classic.
I hope you intend to bring her back to original condition.
Just so you will know, your costs to restor back to Original condition should be no more than $3,000 dollars. Compared to a new boat cost of $15,000 today that is very cheap. You will spend about 150 to 200 hrs of work but you will learn alot and have a lot of fun. this forum will be able to help you with every aspect of the restore. Don't worry, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

She is a lot like my Flamingo
I intend to get started on mine as soon as this Oklahoma Heat wave abates.
I found this on the net for your seats.

His boat is very similar and he did a great job of documenting everything that needs to be done to restore one of these classic beauties. Keep us posted and make sure to keep the pics coming. I will help you all I can.
Good Luck

:D
