Ditto, but Indmar or PCM used an LT1 or LT4 in for one of their towboat motors.

My friend has a ski, towboat and that thing hauls strait *****. Just like the one above. But his is a mastercraft a 1996 I belive. So with some junk yard stuff that can probley be had pretty cheap you could be able to do it. He also had a shop instal the lt 4 package on his which the lt4 vetts came with. That boat will pull any thing any time any were.

Re: replace 260hp 350cid with LT1???

I've been on many car, motorcycle, and boat forums for many years, and there are ALWAYS people (myself included) who ask "Can I do ______?"

The only correct answer is "Sure, with enough time, effort, ingenuity, and MONEY."

If you're wanting to do the project just to save a few bucks, and because you happen to already have the engine, I'd say run away from the project.

If you're wanting to do it because you're looking to do something unique, you want a challenge, and you already happen to have the engine. Then I say GO FOR IT.

It's people like you who come up with some of the coolest and most sought after mods. Start out with a hairbrained idea that a lot of folks say "you're wasting you time, it's too much work", and later, once the project is done and working properly, those same folks come back and say "Awesome, can you post up a tutorial on how to do it, and where to buy the parts?" Still others will say "How much money do you want to do my boat?"

I'm a fourth kind of person... I'm forever saying "Someday, when I have a shop..." :D

Re: replace 260hp 350cid with LT1???

The main reason for wanting to do it is because my merc 350 block has a hairline crack in it, so I have to pull the motor(no big deal),and find a new block, teardown my old one, start inspecting parts to see what needs to be bored, planed,or replaced,$$$$. The money I would spend on rebuilding the original block will more than pay for any mods I would need to do, plus install a closed loop cooling system on the LT1.....and I end up with FI and more ponies....plus it would look cool...

I plan on using my marine starter and alternator, and as far as the fuel injection sytem goes,it will comply with Canadian Coast Guard Standards,I just need to add a spark arrester. I posted the address for the info. Just copy and paste it.

Just wondering, how much of a difference can there be between a marine fuel injection system and an automotive system?

Here is a link to the USCG regulations, all I could find anyway

i hate going through this

People say things like i used HYD line becasue i know it will not burst

Well all the parts have to pass a BURN test and be rated A1 ,ECT ,ECT and people allways think they know better and it is safe because nothing ever happened

Hydraulic lines were never mentioned. Were can I get fuel line that passes those tests?

You have to forgive a little and realize what kind of forum you are on here, thundercat. Most of these guys experience is limited and the ones who have actually touched a wrench only know stock-type stuff anyway. There are very few if any REAL modders here. For the type of info you are looking for you want to hit some of the hi-po forums that are out there. These are the guys who build boats with twin and triple 600+ cube fuel injected and supercharged engines. THEY know how to modify stuff and what equipment is acceptable and what isn't; they also usually know WHY something is or isn't acceptable. I know all the hose you would need could be made up out of Aeroquip stainless steel braided hose. I have made brake lines for race cars out of their teflon lines and plumbed nitrous applications as well. And if you think coast guard regulations are strict, try complying with NMCA, IMCA, SCCA and NHRA safety standards sometime.
Anyway the guys on those types of forums would probably get a kick out of what you are doing even though they have probably already done it a hundred times over, and i guarantee they will be more positive and helpful than this negative bunch.

Hey Nova,

I'm going to search for a few hi-po sites to see what I come up with. Do you have any suggestions?

Gotta keep Big Brother happy, right?

There's a big difference between meeting the requirements, and having Big Brother's "Stamp of approval".

Not everybody needs a babysitter.

Past projects include a 450 HP datusun 260Z. I built, installed and tuned a "megasquirt" which is a DIY fuel injection system.

Are you a Hybridz member?

"Only real issue was getting 75 PSI of fuel presure to the rail in a boat safely. I ended up using hydrolic hose and fittings for everything, because I know it will never leak."

There is no drought that you can build and EFI system and things like CG approved hoses and fittings are OFF the shelf items

It is also now become common on one brand of marine EFI system to use and in-tank fuel pump with return line like and auto system
