150 hp 1992 Evinrude,

Just replaced the fuel / water filters on my new to me engines. Used original OMC housing with new Racor filters with the clear plastic bottoms.

I did NOT fill the filters with gas before installing, just pumped the primer bulbs until firm. The engines don’t want to start; it’s been about a month since I ran them. Could the problem be related to the replacement of the filters? Or did I just flood the engines with all the pumping.

Did I screw up?

On the plus side only about a tablespoon of water in the old filters, the filters look like they’ve been on since hector was a pup. No evidence of water in the bottom of the new filters. :)

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Easy to tell if you're flooded. Pull a spark plug or two.

Your primer bulb(s) should easily fill the filter bowls. Make sure you have no air leaks.
