Post pictures of that part and area where it is installed.-----But I am willing to bet a small sum that you don't have to remove the power head.-----Or maybe I will look at a similar motor later today.

If my old brain remembers correctly, I believe there was a drift pin going thru that gear housing and the shaft it goes on...the hole filled with oily crud and made it hard to find. Small punch and hammer to drift the pin out.

Simple , easy job.----Powerhead does not need to be removed.----Procedure to follow when model # is posted.----Or is this / was this a tiller model ?-----Or remote from factory ?

I use the first model from marineengine.com parts lookup. Model and serial number are not to be found on this engine. Yet I bought it from a dealer (used). The remote control pin broke on the old gear assy. I was able to remove it after 10 -15 min playing with it.
The new one will not go in the base ( Lower unit assy ) high enough for me to slip the grease nipple (at the bottom) into its place. I feel something will have to be raised (or lowered) for me to get this to slide in.20220924_123240.jpg

If I loosen anything I think I have to drop the Lower unit so nothing (Driveshaft and Gear Shifter do not get bent).
