In the midst of doing a PH rebuild I replaced my VRO with a new unit. I have a few questions regarding this.

1st, the instructions were not very clear, IMO, about the pulse fitting that goes into the block.

This is an 86 evinrude XP150. Stock mine had a pulse fitting that had the internal flame arrestor. The new kit has the blue/gold fittings for the flame arrestor part. One of them screws into a block, but it won't fit on my block as it's too big. The other is made to go inline. Then they also add a pulse fitting for the block that is empty/hollow inside.

The instructions talk about leaving the original pulse fitting in place on some motors, but that's where I'm not real clear. I finally put the hollow pulse fitting in and then the flame arrestor that goes inline, inline blue side facing pump. Is this correct?

I only question it, because I seem to have poor performance and a fuel leak. I want to make sure I'm not getting a fuel issue from the pump. The engine idles fine and seems to be using oil from the resevoir.

Then 2nd, I went from a 3-wire VRO to a 4-wire VRO. What exactly is the 4th wire for? It was purple and I had a place to mount it on the terminal block.
