i replaced one of my yamaha 200hp engines with a 89..i think, was an 85..anyways everything was identical with the plugs at the engine, only thing that does not work is the gauge, i bought the engine from a friend and his tach is different, mine is the kind that looks like a cars and has the oil lights, which work fine. and his had bars that raise. i have a manual but it says nothing about servicing the tach. where does the wire come from the engine and what color is it? do i need that gauge my friend has?

i did a search here and i did not find much usefull

i said i did a search, i did not find anything. i have all the plugs in place and all corrosion gone, i was just wondering if there is a difference in the 2 typs of yamaha tachs that came out during those years, the analog or the bars. they both have oil lights

This is not the honda forum and we still do not know what motors you are talking about

Do you really have honda tachs on the boat?

Yamaha tach wires were usually green and hooked to the regulator, but not sure for that model. Do you have a manual?

holy crap, i didnt realize i said honda, iv got a honda bike..haha sorry but i do have yamaha gauges, my friend did give me a full service manual but it does not say anything about a tach its weird, it does have a single page designated for the entire ignition/trim system from the engine, sirens, gauges and fuel/oil all on a small page, its so small i cant read it. i service heating and a/c so i can read a diagram.... and i have no idea why anyone would put so much on a page, the legend for the parts is probably 30 abbreviations, smaller than regular printer size.
