im almost 100% sure i did it all right. replaced the impeller, and some gaskets. but it still wasnt peeing. i felt the exhaust plate and it started getting warm.

when i turned it off. it sounded like water gurgling in the tube, so i would think it was working? how do i go about looking for clogs?

Take your lower end back off.Keep the copper tube in the upper portion.Take a water hose(water on) and put the end up to the copper tube. You should see it starting to pee in a few seconds. If you do then its most likely the impellor/housing,ect.

If you don't see it peeing then you might have a blockage in the upper portion.

damnit! haha. i didnt want to have to drain the lower unit lube again. is it safe to drain it into the bottle then put it back in the motor?

Drain the LU oil to change an impeller???????????????????????

Just drop the LU and take the top off the pump, look around and find the key, put a spot of grease on it to help hold it onto the shaft as you slide the impeller down over it. Try to turn the impeller, once seated, to double check that the key is in place.

Reassemble, add water and stir.

my manual said to drain the oil? lol

i didnt know you didnt have to.

also. i was cleaning off the hose and the exit for the tattle tale. when i took the hose off and tipped it up, i heard water gurgling again. so im going to run it and see if i unclogged it.

i cleaned out the pee hole at the end of the tube. and its now at a dribble.

as soon as i started the motor, the exhaust plate got really cold. so that means its working?

do you think i just need to run it at a higher rpm?
how do you get to the other end of the tube that connects to the motor on the starboard side.

Sounds like you have it solved. A cold exhaust cover is a good sign. I have had the telltale output plugged by mud wasps a number of times. Scares me when I look back and don't see water output .

If you are running on muffs, you won't see much output from the telltale but you should see a substantial amount of water exiting thru the prop exhaust if the waterpump is working. Don't mistake the leakage from the muffs with water from the exhaust.

You can use a length of weed eater trim line to force thru the telltale line up to the block to clear any blockages. It is flexible enough and rigid enough to do the job.

As far as getting access to the PORT side of the telltale line ..... good luck. Maybe if you remove the cowling support frames you might be able to lower the cowling enough to get close to it.
