I just replaced the stator on my 1988 60hp Johnson with a new one from CDI. When I got done I had no spark. Had spark with the old one, I was replacing it because the carging coils had melted and it ws no longer charging the battery. I even put it back on to verify that everything was still working. It started up fine on the old stator. I called CDI and left a message with their tech help, but I have not gotten a reply yet. The new stator cheacks out fine with an ohm meter, I'm running out of ideas. Anyone got any other ideas.

Everything is connected properly. The engine runs with the old stator, but not with the new one. I have cleaned all the grounds, checked everything I can, still no spark with new stator. I have change back to the old stator, then to the new one 3 times with the same results: Runs with old one, no spark with new one.

guy, you said that the new stator checks out fine with an ohm meter....did you compare resistance readings between both stators?

Yes I checked and compared the ohm readings from both stators. They are within 10 ohms of each other on the leads going to the powerpack. They also are within the ranges in the troubleshooting guide from CDI.

I fixed it!! The plug on the new stator had the wires in different positions. Changed the wires around and it works fine. Thanks to everyone who replied I guess either the plug on the new stator was wrong or someone in the past changed the ones on my motor around.
