Replaced temperature sender and water ran out

I'm assuming this is entirely normal but I'm really not sure. Boat hasn't run in a couple of weeks. Took the old temperature sender off of the 3.0L engine and water ran out of the hole for a bit. Is that expected?

having water trapped in the block is not unusual. I fired mine up dry (stupid I know now, even with no drive on) and blew a bit of water out. it had been sitting unused for 9 years......
