replacement anchor rope and chain for Quick windlass

I would like to replace my anchor rope and chain. Its a Quick Windlass with 7mm chain 1/2” 3 strand rope. Will 1/4” chain work in place of the 7mm chain? And this also has a special small seam Where the rope joins the chain. I do not know if there windlass will work with other ropes even. Id just buy another one from Quick but they do not sell them long enough in both the chain and rope for what I want. Id like 400 feet or more rope and 25 to 30 foot of chain. Any suggestions are great. My boat came with a really short rope like 60 feet. I guess Im supposed to be anchoring in a swimming pool or something.

You will want to check with the windlass specifications to be sure . . . but you need to match both diameter and link length of the chain to the gypsy. Most windlasses will take 3 strand twisted rode or 8 plait. Braided rode may not work.

I googled "custom anchor rode for windlass" and got a bunch of hits. There are companies that'll fabricate the rode to your specs. look around. Something you MUST consider is the depth and capacity of your anchor rode locker. 400' of rode will require a lot of "drop depth" so the line doesn't pile up and cause the windlass to jam.

Looks like plenty of room for 400 feet or more in the compartment. I called Quick and they gave me some specs 1/4” G43 chain or 7mm will work three strand rope. The cost difference between a 300 foot rope with a 15 foot chain and a 400 foot rope with a 30 foot chain is literally triple so I opted for a 300 foot rope and 15 foot chain. If I find myself needing more Ill deal with that then. At least I will be able to anchor in more water than my bathtub. It also surprises me theres no one in Portland Oregon building anchor ropes , were surrounded by water not to mention anchoring in the Columbia is pretty aggressive anchoring in major current big waves high wind and deep water I guess if you break a rope here your waiting for one to show up.
