Replacement Built-in Cooler?

Hello. I am new to the forums. There is a built-in cooler under the port rear jump seat. It is cracked and leaks, and I was wanting to replace/build a new one. Any ideas where to buy cooler liners? Any suggestions on how to build a new one?

My guess is that you will probably have to repair the one you have. The same techniques used for repairing fiberglass would probably work fine.

Did Sea Ray build a 190 in 1979? I have a 1978 195 with the cooler you speak of. It's a basic old Coleman and you could replace it with any with similar dimensions. Or have a storage box built to replace it. As much as I love that boat, the construction methods were somewhat shabby in that era. Unless the 4 screws that hold that cooler down are perfectly sealed and resealed every time the cooler is removed, twice a year at least for me for cleaning and maintenance, you are inviting rot in the floor if moisture gets in those screw holes either via the cooler or rain or any water that runs down the interior. Far too nice a boat to not take care of! Good luck!

i don't use my built-in anymore, after rebuilding the stringers and all. the floor was rotten under the ice chest, and lots of other places. i didn't cut a drain hole.

mainly, i hated the hassle of loading stuff into it and then having to unload it at the end of the day. a decent bit of ice melts cooling it down and it gets dirty.

a soft sided cooler that fits in the built-in works better for me. ymmv

Thanks for the replies. I tried to take it out last night, however I could not get the screws out for the seat. They appear to have rotted and/or stripped, so i'm just going to put this project on hold until the winter, when I pull the two back jump seats and rebuild them. And yes, they did build a 190 is 1979. Attached is a page from the 1979 brochure. the love scene is classic!

Oh and by the way, that pic of your Sea Ray is nice. Very nice looking restoration.

That love scene is what I was visualizing when I redid my 195, sadly my new girlfriend has a bit of a boat aversion. Oh well, I now have 2 seperate love lives! The 1978 Sea Ray brochure has Bruce Jenner's family froliccing on a beach, a few more fantasies there.....
