replacement Circulating water pump 5.7 Volvo Penta GSi with a serpentine belt

Hi, I am trying to get on the water as soon as possible and I need to replace my water circulation pump on my 5.7 Volvo Penta GSi. It is a year 2000 and has a serpentine belt. Since I'm in a hurry and there are no Volvo Penta Dealers near me, I'd like to know if there is an automotive pump out there, that circulates the water in the correct direction, that I can pick up and use instead of a factory VP part? If do, can you please tell me the year, make and model engine/car that I can request a water pump for?.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard Bill,.... Donno where ya are, but an automotive pump won't last a week in Saltwater,....

Order up an aftermarket, or Volvo waterpump here at iboats, 'n ya oughta have it in a few days,....

Thank you Bondo. I appreciate your advice. It is correct. I did some research and found out some interesting information. Automotive water pumps are one directional and the pump direction is impacted by whether or not the belt being used is a V belt or serpentine belt. The marine water pumps used on the small block Chevy's byVolvo Penta and MerCruiser or bidirectional pumps, use cast bronze impellers, and I think stainless steel in the shaft sometimes the backing plate and in the spring for the seal. So in short, you are correct, it's a definite throw away of money and waste of time to try and use an automotive pump. I did order one and had an express mailed with two day delivery. Price was very reasonable and it should be here tomorrow. Thanks again for your insight. Bill
