Replacement controls

I have a 1978 Evinrude 115. The engine is in great shape, but the controls are worn out.

Looking around on e-bay I see references to "10-pin" controls and other types. Is there a special kind of plug that I am looking for? Does it matter, since I am looking to replace both the controls and the cables?

There is so much electrical tape around the base of my conrols that I can't tell if there is any type of plug there now, or of it's just wired in directly.

Re: Replacement controls

I have a 77 model V4, and the main plug on motor is red, so I think you want to match that up with red plug on controls. At least that's what I'm thinking. And it is a 10-pin plug on your motor too. And are the controls physically worn out or just needing adjustments? Are you having shifting problems, or throttle problems?

Re: Replacement controls

I don't get any acceleration until I've almost got the throttle all the way open. It's like getting 10% of the power from 90% of the movement ... then the last 10 of the throttle is where all the power is.

Also, all the wiring inside is brittle and causing me ignition problems. I've been patching it up, but it all needs to be rewired. These controls have been rained on quite a bit as well.
