replacement impeller question

i ordered a replacement impeller from napa auto parts and the kit came with the impeller, 2 gaskets, half circle and a tiny pill shaped capsule with a grease or something in it- what is this pill for?

You swallow it to lube your insides.
Ah, seriously, you put a little grease on the impellor

I always thought that lube was for the bushing in the cover for the end of the impeller shaft......Maybe Don S. can shed some light on this.....

I have to pull the shaft out to replace the raw water impeller on mine. That means the shaft goes back into the bushings and that's where I put the lube.

It should be glycerine and is used to lubricate the impeller and the inside of the housing prior to installation. As glycerine is water soluble it serves no useful purpose to put it on a bushing.
