Replacement Of Flooring in Bass Boat

I am restoring a 1983 Skeeter Starfire 115 . Currently the boat is being custom painted and I plan to post photos once it is completed. My question is this , I have ripped out all of the carpeting so that I can replace both the floor and the carpet with new marine grade. When I look down into the boat flooring , I see a series of stainless Steel screws that are screwed through the fiberglass outside diameter and into the flooring and I have no idea how the floor was put in place . I can take out the screws , but the flooring is still located under the outside edge or lip of the fiberglass.

This means that the fiberglass has about 3 "s of covering over the plywood all the way around the area that I would like to take the plywood out of to replace .I can not see how I can take the plywood out since the fiberglass is basically holding it in place. Outside of separating the hull from the top of the boat , I see no way to do this . If anyone has had any experience doing this type of job , please let me know. I would appreciate any help that I can get .

Thanks

I think in order to do a full floor replacement you need to pull the cap. That pic is my boat which is undergoing this right now. I'm doing all new floors and foam throughout. Also the transom is getting done as well. What seems to be the trend is that what starts out as a simple floor job turns into a full restore because usually more rot is found and sometimes wet foam.

If you go over to bassboat central and look in the bassboat restoration forum there are tons examples of bass boats in pieces. The guys here on Iboats are great and help a ton. Bassboat central just has some bassboat specifics that may help if you decide to tackle it on your own.

Thanks MOgfisher , that's kind of what I thought . I just figured that since I had the boat stripped down to where it is, that I would replace the floor as well. There are no soft spots in the floor , so I think I will leave it as is instead of disturbing the new paint by removing the cap.

Thanks for the response
