Hello there
Well, I believe the steering line snapped last night, resulting in a tow off the lake. Sad day, but nice people helped me out.
I am going to replace the cable, because I don't have $475 and the two weeks to wait the dealer wants to replace it. Iboats lists cables for about $110.
The job looks to be a bear. I am seeking any hints before I begin the job. I verified the cable is not loose at either the worm gear up front, or the attachment on the rack. I can hear noise in the cable by the battery, so am assuming it wore out on the sharp curve area where it goes down the side and curves toward the engine.
Any advice would be appreciated. Which end should I start the job on? Should I try to use a feeder rope to pull the new cable, does that work? Is taking all of the side panels off recommended prior also? Is it best to cut sections out during removal? Again any and all advice is welcome, I don't want to spend two days doing this, but also realize it will be a time consuming job.
