Replacement plywood floor

Hi folks<br /><br />Do I need to put glass (mat) on the bottom of the floor before I screw it down on the runners or is it not necessary?, I plan to fiberglass the top once it is in place. What about the runners underneath the floor, can I just paint it with resin or do I have to encapsulate it in fiberglass mat.<br />Any help will be appreciated.

The runners should be encapsulated but you can just paint the bottom and sides of the plywood with the mixed resin.

Hi Bill, thank you for such a quick reply. I see you are talking about mixed resin, is this resin mixed with silica powder?<br />What wood is the preferred wood for runners? (Pine or Meranti)

conjor - Bill is referring to epoxy resin I think - not poly resin. Lots of info on resins under Search above.<br /><br />On the "runners" (which are called stringers) use any relatively hard wood or even plywood (may have to sandwich). Do not use pressure treated wood as fiberglass does not adhere well due to the chemicals in the preservative.

Thanks for all the help, I ripped the floor out and what a sight - rotted completely now I can start to do something constructive.<br />Thanks again
