Replacement prop

I have a 1986 Cobalt Condurre 223 and I’m looking for a stainless replacement prop. Stamped on the current prop is 992005 which I find to be a Michigan Wheel Vortex. Can I use the same specs, just in stainless? Looking for the best mix of speed, performance and economy; if you can have all three. Thanks.

Hard to get all that in one package as what optimizes on one hand is a detriment on the other. Going to SS usually puts more load on the engine because they are usually built "to grab and hold onto water". I'd expect to drop at least an inch of pitch and expect an increase in speed of a few MPH at WOT.

Props built for top end are different blade designs than those built for cruising...fast props are designed for "bow lift" getting the hull up and out of the water, reducing drag and increasing speed. Cruising props are designed for "stern lift" to get the bow down and stern up to reduce drag and increase efficiency.

You can achieve a good mix of these things. But usually not at the first attempt.

That's a 14-1/4" x 21" aluminium prop. I would look at the Michigan 993045, a SS 14" x 21" prop. As it's a tad smaller in diameter, that'll be enough to keep the revs around the same as your current prop.

I will add an additional comment to what I posted previously. A ported prop like the Laser II can function as both simultaneously.The ports allow the engine to unload at slow speeds, making for a great hole shot with a high pitched prop tuned for the top end, yet at the high end they close off and you are what the blades are. However, efficiency sucks if you are interested in Sunday afternoon cruises, just on planing speed....get a suitable prop for that.
