I have a 72 Merc 80hp and have been looking at this one. However coming from most of the Merc guru's there is no need to install a recitifier/voltage regulator.A plain and simple replacement recitifier will be just fine with the asumption all your wiring and stator are working as they should.I was curious myself noticing that when wot the voltage seemed to go up to near the 16 volt mark but I guess thats okay..Take a look at this website and see if this is what might interest you.

The charging system in the 70s inline motors is only 9A or so. A VR is unnecessary. What motor do you have?

SUNSET850-and-raquel copy2.jpgThe rectifier is OK but I put in a new CDI trigger and I don't want to run it at 16v. I have found this one, will it keep the voltage around 13-14?
