Replacement steering question

My steering on a 16-foot 1973 Starcraft runabout finally busted. I want to replace with modern system, but not certain what type would work best.
The motor is a 1988 Yamaha outboard, 50 hsp.
The current steering cable is directly connected to steering arm, moving on old-fashioned ball and joint; I would prefer to come through tube on engine and around to the steering arm.
What do I buy?
What is difference between Rack & Pinion mechanical steering vs. Rotary mechanical that I've been reading?
Do I need anti-feedback system for this horsepower?

thanks for any advice.

Re: Replacement steering question

About the only difference between rack & pinion and rotary is the amount of space they need to be installed. Rotary takes more vertical space and rack & pinion takes more horazonial space. Both feel the same when installed.
Check here on iboats for kits to install either one.
