Hey everyone,

I have a 1976 115HP Evinrude (model# 115693D) which has a pretty rotten transom mount. I've decided to replace it, and found a used one online from a 1973 which, according to ER and a local shop, will fit.

My question is this: How does this thing come off? There seems to be only 6 bolts that hold the whole assembly on: two at the top, and 4 at the base. However, there is a 1/3 inch or so stainless shaft that I can see that seems to be going through the whole assembly down to the gearbox. What is this, and how do I remove it? Does anyone have a copy of the schematic for this engine?

Any help would be appreciated.

That is the shift rod leading to the lower unit. You'll need to disconnect it at the top in the area underneath the bottom carburetor, then drop the lower unit.

Removing the transom mount may be a bear to do, especially if the engine has been run in salt water. I have a factory manual for my old 1978 Evinrude 140 and that is the same engine.
If you want me to send you the section on replacing the mount, let me know. I would have to scan the section and send it to you as a PDF file and will be glad to do so if you want it. I would need your email address though...............piniongear
