replacing 200hp evinrude

My 200 hp 1996oceanpro evinrude went last year Im thinking of rerbuilding but I have a chance to buy a 250 1998 oceanpro with good compression and low hours,,it comes with all the controls and harness ,,,can I just bolt it on my boat and hook it up? is weight an issue? my boat is a 23ft walkaround and it has a gil drive the new motor has a 30 inch shaft mine is 25 will this be a problem??thanks

There should be a plate on the rear of that boat somewhere which lists the maximum hp and weight allowed.

The 5" extended shaft length will create a problem such as excessive drag which will result in a rooster tail as speed is increased.

there's a 50-60 pound difference, 250 being heavier, the 30" shaft would have to be converted, or you would have to install a Jack Plate. which would also add weight to the stearn. the max hp of the boat also must be considered. at the cost involved, if you were happy with the 200's performance, i suggest a rebuild, or power head.

thanks I think i will pick up a powerhead,,,and get going on putting it back together i lost the number 2 piston Im assuming it was the carb that leaned out and melted the ring and oart o fthe piston ,, I caught it in time it didnt cause too much wall damage,,,the carbs will be rebuilt by somelse now in case i did it wrong before and thats what caused it a and i wil pay to have them all synch and have the motor timed
