Re: replacing 280 bellows and ujoint

No pics...sorry.
HOWEVER!
The drive is completely re-installed. And it steers properly now.:D

As I was removing all the plugs and such after mounting the drive....
when I removed the drain plug I got a good little pressure "blast" as the bolt came out...
Is this normal? There was no oil in it.

I'll get pics of new bellows and the drive mounted up....that is what I started the thread for..lol

Btw....
On the subject of aligning the steering fork...
Inside the transom if you place the spindle arm pointing straight ahead (it has a nice slot in it that helps with this)

and then slide the steering fork up exactly perpendicular to the transom shield....things will line up perfect.

The other night it was getting dark and I was kind of rushing things......I bet I was only off one spline but it really makes a difference in the swing of the drive.
Tonight....I took my time and had my son inside the engine room making sure the spindle arm remained dead ahead. Things worked great!

Re: replacing 280 bellows and ujoint

Thanks guys!
Had a great weekend....boat ran great.
However!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The paint on the outdrive was apparently NOT dry after two weeks in HOT Georgia weather.
I have a pic of it, I've got to upload it.

The paint is all crinkly looking over most of the freakin drive!!!!
What happened here?

I seriously think I'm just leaving it for now. Will repaint when engine is pulled in winter.

But, really? the freaking paint wasn't cured? two weeks in GA sun and 90+ temps/low humidity????

Hey, I think that we have the same drive. How much of a pain was it to pull it off and change the bearing and u-joints? I may be having to do this to mine in short order :/

You don't have the same drive as he does. Close, but no cigar. Ask your questions on your thread and you will get answers, hide your questions in someone elses thread any your questions will get missed.

Agree with Don
start your own thread jetman and these guys are a ton a of help!

Btw, I'm still steaming about the damn paint on the drive. I'm using hardener and spraying with a gun next time(sticking with rustoleum, because I have faith)
....no more rattle can. What a waste of a ton of work. Others have done it with no problems and I thought for sure it would be cured after 2 weeks in 90f sunny days.
Ahhhhhh boats......
