I recently blew the motor on my Chaparral 215SS . I'm getting ready to order a replacement engine and I've decided to go with a 383 stroker. I have a few questions.
Will the SX M drive handle 415 horsepower and 455 lb ft of torque?
If so, my current final drive ratio is 1.6 according to the plate on the motor. Can I find a prop to keep me in the 5,000 rpm WOT range or should I change out drive to a 1.43?
Will I encounter any issues with the structural integrity of the boat after installing this engine? I think it's rated for 300 horsepower.
I realize I'm going outside the manufacturers recommended specifications, but am I breaking any laws? I'm planning to put the factory 5.0 engine/carburetor cover back on, so at first blush everything will appear normal.
