I spend a lot of time on another boating forum with VERY opinionated members. I've not heard of anyone screaming about Suzuki fly by wire issues. If it were a problem, they'd be squawking.

I'm looking for a 28' ish project boat to repower and when I find one, it will be a pair of Suzukis with the fly by wire.
Well if its a 2025 model .....early days🙂 .
I would need both hands to count the times a cable has left me stuck with either no throttle or jammed on full . My car has fly by wire .....I carry a spare module (2nd hand ) because they have history, so its sorta 6 of one ½dozen of the other . In my position given the choice I would go for the cable simply because I believe I have a better chance of jerry rigging something to get me home . None of my motors have had any warranty by the time I get to own them . If I was buying a new motor I would (have to ) be happy with fbw as its probly just as reliable as a cable , but its still not my thing 🙂

So I contacted the dealer in Florida to order and pay for the Suzuki. He told me that the Suzuki company will not allow him to ship the engine from Florida to NY and he is not even allowed to have me install it myself. All of this is in order to protect local dealerships. The price difference between Florida and Western NY is about $6000 . I like Suzuki engines, but this customer is not a sucker for you to fleece.

Wow. Cost is cost and I get NE is more expensive pensive than SWF but that seems a bit much. I dont get the installation thing either.

I can see them protecting their dealers like that and letting people hang their own can be asking for trouble.
Myself, I'd hit up every Suzuki dealer within a couple hundred miles to get quotes.

I sorta get the installation thing If someone installs their own and screws it up causing damage even if you can prove fault on his part it can be a real fight that most businesses can do without . Even if the errant customer is soundly thrashed in court he will still tell everyone what a pack of arseholes you are and what a piece of crap the product is .
I used to do heatpumps and it got that way that unless we ( or some qualified person ) did the install we wouldnt sell it . Even selling lawn mowers ......didnt matter how many stickers and tags advising that they were shipped with no oil peeps would turn up next day with a seized motor or a rod hanging out of a new inspection port .

My vendor offers their products to the consumer, just with a different serial number. Its a 30 day warranty instead of (off the top of my head I don't remember but like 2 years sounds right) and that's fine. It is an identical product for those who want to save a few hundred bucks. I get it. They're protecting their dealers but also allowing the DIY guy to get a deal. The price on that jungle website is cheaper than my cost plus discount... not by much but it is. I think that's fair.

Granted its not a complex beast like an engine but I can see both sides of it.
