How do you replace the alternator belt on an 88 OMC 3L? Looks like the forward motor mount has to be disconnected (??) as the belt loops around it. Any tricks of the trade here?
The motor mount is not difficult to remove. Need to support the front of the motor with a block of wood or something and move the mount just enough to slip the belt in. Suggest putting in an extra belt and tying it out of the way to have a spare ready just in case. adrew
I used a block of wood and a crow bar placed crow bar (with a curve) under wood so I could push down to lift up when putting screws back in. had me confused for a while too.
if you are looking at your engine remove the 2 bolts on the right side that go through the mount into the block, that piece where the 2 bolts go through comes out and you can slide the belt in that way.
