I would like to replace my carpet in my 17' bowrider but when I went to remove the old carpet, it will not budge. I couldn't even get a little piece up as it is completely glued down everywhere. Is there a trick to removing carpet that is glued down and failing that, can I just re-carpet over the old one.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Ayuh,... A 6" Scraper works,... Air powered is even Better/ Quicker...
Then ya gotta Grind/ Sand all the old glue off,....
After that, put the new carpet down...

No, No way in 'ell will putting new carpet over old carpet work....
Even a Redneck would atleast put down another layer of plywood 1st,.... :D

Heat Gun MIGHT help loosen the glue to aid in Peeling the carpet back.

Re: Replacing Carpet

As well I think the multi tool will do a nice job. I tried Goof Off and a scraper etc., and basically had a mess to deal with as well as a room full of unpleasant fumes. In the end, I completely removed the decking so that nulled the carpet removal. If you can undercut it with the multi tool (they are only about $35 at Harbor Freight:

and there are more uses for the tool when you are done scraping.

Re: Replacing Carpet

hmmm.....tearing up the old carpet eh?.....what fun :mad:

that is one of me least fave things to do.

after the carpet is up......if you have a pro buffer/sander. the big 8 inch pad with a minimum of 40 grit will shave that glue off fast.....just have a lot of paper handy

Re: Replacing Carpet

Just finished doing this on my 1990 ranger 363v I'm redoing. I saw a youtube video that really helped me out. GOO GONE is the way to go. You spray it on wait 24 hours then come back and once you get a piece started it peels back real easy. All the left behind glue comes up easy with a putty knife because of the goo gone. The other brands like goof off give off a serious smell so I wouldn't use them. Goo Gone has a citrus smell and nothing more.

Hope this helps.
Jim ;)
