Replacing deck on Crestliner

I have a 1992 Crest liner Eagle 196 that has some soft spots in the floor mainly in the rear section. These spots are relatively small but very annoying. What is the down side of putting a layer of 12/ pressure treat plywood over the top of the existing deck? I realize it will add weight but the area is fairly small so the weight would probably be about 40lbs extra. Also it would hold water between the decks if I don't' seal the edges properly. The boat has aluminum stringers so rotted stringers are not a concern. Is this feasible or a really bad idea?

I only have experience with fiberglass boats, but from discussions, isn't much easier to get the entire floor out of an aluminum boat? If its only the rear section, have you considered sawing off the last say 4 feet of the floor, pulling it out and replacing that entire section?

you won't have to make the joint on top of a stringer, provided you have room under the floor, you can screw and glue a block, like a piece of decking under the existing floor extending out to hold up the new floor and once the new is in place screw it to the block as well, that will effectively make the two pieces on.

As for traping water, unless you are missing up a gallon of epoxy that is thickened and cementing the 2nd layer of floor down, you are going to get water under there to accelerate the rot of the existing floor.

Then of course there is always the issue of whats the wet foam situation like under that floor.

Thanks for your reply sdunt, I hadn't thought of replacing just part of it. That may be the ideal answer because I intend to cover the entire area with marine carpet anyhow so a seam or joint wouldn't show. I think that would work nicely, thanks!
