Guys..
I am going to end up in the ER from my bloodpressure on this **&&^^%% thing..

I am replacing the blocking plate at the back of my exhaust manifold.
I took the riser off to get me some working room, There are 4 bolts holding this old plate on, or whats left of it..

I got one out, but the 3 left are soooo wasted that they have rounded off, I tried vise grips, nope..I tried that seen on TV Gator socket..what a joke..
They have been sprayed with PB blaster..tapped with a sledge....
Tried filing some new angles on the head to see if I could beat a 7/16 onto it..nope..

Any suggestions, I am at the end of my rope here..

Thanks
CBK

Thanks..Is that where you have to drill into the head of the bolt then use the left threaded extractor? if so, there is no way of getting behind the manifold to drill straight on the bolt head..Unless I just remove the whole &#*##^ manifold, which of course I dont want to do:mad:

Re: replacing exh mani blocking plate.

Grind the remains of what is left away and remove the plate,vise-grip or very small pipe wrench.

Sears makes a set of bolt extractors. They are like sockets, except the insides are sharp and spiral inwards. They do work, have gotten me out of alot of tight spots. The only thing is you have to keep firm pressure against the bolt for them to bite and hold.

If you have room, try heating them up, and even while hot, then hit the thing with some pb.

Thanks KRH..I am actually looking at those right now on their site...
They dont work with a ratchet? It seems you have to use a box wrench?

I also read where you can heat em up and then apply candle wax, the wax supposedly seeps in and lubes the threads...I think I am headed to sears..more manly than the candle store..lol

You can use them with a combo open/ box wrench, if it is that tight, or I drop them into a socket if I have the room.

Candle may work, never tried it. I do frequently heat old bolts and hit ' em right away with penetrating fluid. Seems to suck in the good juices.

Good Luck

Just remember that you really have to keep pressure on it, onto the bolt, for it to get a good bite.
