I need to replace the floor of my 1994 Larson with a 4.3L Merc I/O, probably the stringers too. I've read quite a bit but still have a lot of questions but I'm handy with tools so hopefully I can figure this out with some help.
1. Do I have to pull the motor?
2. Is it hard to get the cap off and will I need something to lift it?
3. Can I do this all with the boat on the trailer?

Appreciate all answers, thanks in advance. Gordon.

hi...welcome to i boats !

1. dont know yet......you wont know till you find out the extend of the rot....if it extends under the batery area and into the transom.....yep....but you may have got lucky.....you just dont know yet.
but pulling a motor in a boat is 20 minits work.....easy as pie.

2. its not hard to take off a cap......however...i highly doubt that you need to.

3. if its a bunk trailer.

4. doing all that .....dont expect to be using your boat this year

cheers

Oops,
Thanks for the quick reply!
Its a standard easy loader trailer with rollers, is that bad? And if I can't do this on the trailer, is there something I could construct or buy to use instead?
I have to pull cap to get at floor under floor(part of cap) in bow, wood underneath is rotted away.

I think what Oops was getting at was a bunk trailer will help hold the hull straight and ridgid when you pull the cap off. If it's on a roller trailer, there isn't much support and the boat can twist on you. Best thing to do is construct a jig that will hold the shape of the boat straight so you can remove and replace everything precisely the way it should be without any damage. Somebody else on here had a project where they did the same thing.
