Re: replacing fuel pump

Because of the liability involved, there are no rebuilding kits that I know about.
Just get a new marine one.

Re: replacing fuel pump

My 97 454 Bravo fuel pump mounts directly to the raw water pump. It's an Airtex 60932.

Airtex is the OEM supplier for Mercruiser and others and Autozone, Napa, Checker/Schucks/Kragen should be able to get that pump.

The Airtex catalog I found mine in showed SEVERL marine pumps for Mercruiser etc.

The 60932 retail from Merc was about $180. Schucks sold me the same pump for $55 or so and was matching Autozone.

You can easily get a pump from an autoparts store. just make SURE it's the MARINE pump. I don't think anybody sells rebuild kits anymore.

Rick

Repeat after me: I will never listen to chiefalen.

if your pump has an upper and lower half held together by 6 or 8 screws then you can easily undo it. The problem is finding a new diaphragm, the parts industry is such that they want you to turn in the whole part to make profit. They rebuild it using a $2 diaphragm while you have to buy a whole new or rebuilt unit at full price. Parts like that, including starter solenoids an alternator parts, are hard for consumers to come by. You might be able to find it from summit, jegs, or holley.

the only thing marine about a mechanical fuel pump is if there's a vent on the fuel pump body then there is some provision to contain gas when the diaphragm gets a hole in it otherwise gas would leak out of the fuel pump and into the bilge. When the the pump body isn't sealed, then there has to be some way to contain gas that may come out when the diaphragm gets a hole in it. Usually it's a nipple that mercruiser will run that stupid yellow hose off of, the old way was either a pipe plug sealing it or a sight glass which has a little sign in it saying "if you see gas in here, replace fuel pump".
If you buy a standard inexpensive fuel pump from the parts store, they usually have a pinhole vent in the body which would be bad if used on a boat.

Re: replacing fuel pump

That stupid little yellow hose runs from the carb overflow, so the fuel don't go in the bilge, it flows back to the fuel pump.

Some morons put a auto carb on the boat and then you read about them getting blown up.

Now when a marine pump goes it leaks into the block. Still not the bilge.

And i still didn't didn't see where he says you can get that diaphram.

Do what you want i'm giving you the real dope.

Marine carb, marine, fuel pump, marine starter, and marine alternator.

Marine fuel hose.

Maybe ron uses a garden hose for fuel who knows.
