replacing fuel tank vent hose

I seem to remember reading somewhere that a loop should be put into the vent hose when being replaced. I did a search but couldn't find it. Is this correct, and if so, why? Thanks

Ayuh,... That's correct...

It keeps splashed water out of the fuel tank...
It should go from the vent fitting, Up, then loop down to the tank...
