Working through some issues with my new to me project boat. And swapping out the ignition switch located inside the distributor and have a newbie question as I am at my experience limit. But first the particulars.

1994 Crownline
Mercruiser 5.0 w/Thunderbolt Ignition

This part is the original

This is the replacement part . . .

Whats the third black wire? I'm assuming just a ground . . . Any thing I am missing in terms of changing this sensor out. It came with two pieces of shrink wrap, but man they are huge! Lol, not sure what they are for either

Thanks and again sorry for such a newb question.

black wire goes to one of the 2 ground studs on the bell housing, preferably the one with the battery negative cable. The 2 short wires and shrink wrap are used when replacing a sensor with 2 studs.

Have a read of my Thunderbolt ignition system document in the stickies. It's all covered.
